Facebook has announced that it has removed accounts related to the fringe right-wing conspiracy group, QAnon.

In an announcement, the tech conglomerate stated, “We’re constantly working to find and stop coordinated campaigns that seek to manipulate public debate across our apps. In 2019 alone, we took down over 50 networks worldwide for engaging in coordinated inauthentic behavior (CIB), including ahead of major democratic elections.”

The QAnon conspiracy movement was launched in 2017 and claims that President Donald Trump is secretly planning to arrest high-profile Democratic politicians and celebrities for pedophilia or cannibalism.

The group also believes that the COVID-19 outbreak is a “Lab-created Corona Virus [sic]” intended as a “cover up for [a] mass mandatory vaccination agenda.”

While much of the news from the group gets shared in the form of “QDrops” (which is the given name for posts on QAlerts by QAnon’s self-appointed leader, “Q”), information from the movement’s adherents has also been circulated and spread through social media platforms such as Facebook.
