Following last year’s success with the comedy film “Palm Springs,” Andy Samberg has landed a new movie role.

The “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” star has teamed up for the project with the writer from “Palm Springs,” Andy Siara, the writer from hit television series “Fargo,” Noah Hawley, comedian Ben Stiller, and the creator of the hit animated television series “Bojack Horseman,” Raphael Bob-Waksberg. The project is yet to be titled, although what is known is that the upcoming film will be a sci-fi comedy-drama and that Apple Studios has backed the project.

Although not much is known regarding the details of the project, the film’s concept is said to be based on an original idea by Raphael Bob-Waksberg. Samberg is expected to star and produce the film. Hawley, Nicky Weinstock and Bob-Waksberg will all also produce the film via their respective production companies. Stiller is not expected to star in the film as of yet and instead will work behind the scenes as a producer alongside Nicky Weinstock under Red Hour, along with Red Hour’s Jackie Cohn, who will be executive producing. Siara will be in charge of writing the script and is expected to also be an executive producer for the film. Details about the director are yet to be revealed.

The project came through following the massive success of Samberg’s latest film “Palm Springs,” which is generating buzz this awards season. The film currently sits fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 94%. The movie, which released last year on Hulu, was an original story written by Siara about a man stuck in a time loop when attending a dreaded wedding.

Aside from his starring role in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” Samberg is also set to star in upcoming Disney+ film “Chip n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers” and New Line action comedy with pal Craig Robinson, “Super High.” He also co-executive produces award-nominated show “PEN15” on Hulu, and “I Think You Should Leave” on Netflix.

Apple Studios is hitting the scene quite competitively with several new original offerings now generating award buzz. They are set to begin production on new films from Martin Scorcese and the Russo brothers this year as well.
