Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy proposed a trade with Putin – Ukraine will hand over a Russian tycoon Viktor Medvedchuk if Putin will hand over soldiers captured since the start of the war. Medvedchuk is seen as one of Putin’s top allies.

Meanwhile, the US is ramping up funding for the Ukrainian military and warning other countries not to undermine the sanctions against Russia. And in the UK, those sanctions are intensifying, hitting more and more of the Russian oligarchs the country has had to deal with.

Key comments:

“I propose to the Russian Federation to exchange this guy of yours for our boys and our girls who are now in Russian captivity,” Zelenskiy said in a video address to the nation published early Wednesday. “It’s important that our law enforcement officials and military agencies consider this possibility as well.”

“China has recently affirmed a special relationship with Russia,” Yellen said in a speech Wednesday to the Atlantic Council. “I fervently hope that China will make something positive of this relationship and help to end this war.”
