US sends highest-level officials to Ukraine since start of the war

The US sent two of its top diplomats, Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, to Kyiv to meet with Ukrainian President Zelenskiy on Sunday. The two are the highest-level officials to go to Ukraine since the start of the war in February, and their visit comes right after President Biden announced another US$800 million in aid to the country.
The White House isn’t saying much about the visit, but Zelenskiy has made it pretty clear that, among the things being discussed during the visit, weapons will be a big point of conversation.

Ukraine is expecting “not just presents or some kind of cakes, we are expecting specific things and specific weapons,” said Zelensky at a news conference. “As soon as we have [more weapons], as soon as there are enough of them, believe me, we will immediately retake this or that territory, which is temporarily occupied.”
“We will be waiting for the time when the security situation will allow the president of the U.S. to come and to talk to us,” Zelensky said on Saturday.
