An Amazon employee in the United States who worked at the company’s South Lake Union office complex in Seattle, Washington has contracted the coronavirus. The employee has been quarantined and coworkers who were in close contact with the employee have been notified on March 3.

“We’re supporting the affected employee who is in quarantine,” according to an email by Amazon’s spokesperson to Reuters. Amazon has also said that it will limit non-essential travel in the US, cancel warehouse tours and conduct interviews virtually.

Washington State has seen nine fatalities from coronavirus as of March 4. Health officials have warned that there could be hundreds of coronavirus infections not yet detected in the state due to community spread.

Meanwhile, two of Amazon’s employees in Milan, Italy were confirmed to be infected with the deadly coronavirus on March 1.
