Posts on social media continue to claim that a man pictured on stage at a 2019 Donald Trump rally is Derek Chauvin, the white police officer who killed George Floyd, an unarmed black man earlier this week.

The posts claimed that Chauvin was pictured wearing a “Make Whites Great Again” hat and standing onstage at a Donald Trump rally, neither of which are true. The photos instead show Bloomington Police Federation President Mike Gallagher.

Although false, the hundreds of thousands of views on the posts prompted the president of the Minneapolis police union, Bob Kroll to set the record straight telling The Associated Press that none of the officers involved in the Monday incident were at the Trump rally in Minneapolis last October.

“Can you put a stop to the false narrative please?” Kroll told AP. “None of the officers in the incident were near the Trump rally.”
