The best-selling video games of 2020 is a competitive list, as 2020 saw a huge spike in the gaming industry, thanks to COVID-19. Many people ended up confined to their homes, and playing video games helped to pass the time. As such, many games that were released saw huge engagement from their audiences. Valve in their “Best of 2020” report detailed the top 100 games on the gaming platform Steam, measured by gross revenue.

Topping the list in Steam’s Platinum category was the newly-released Cyberpunk 2077, despite the refunds that users have requested due to the many bugs and glitches the game had. Taking into account all the refunds, the game still has reportedly sold more than 13 million copies, even though it was only recently released.

Some of the other top-selling games according were Destiny 2, Among Us, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, Red Dead Redemption 2, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Among Us. Games like Doom Eternal, Dota 2, Grand Theft Auto 5 and Monster Hunter World were also included in the Platinum category, but lower on that list.

Although Phasmaphobia gained huge popularity on streaming platform Twitch, the game got relegated to Steam’s Gold category this year. Contender for Game of the Year, Hades, topped the Silver category, despite receiving rave reviews from critics, with many calling it the best game of the year.

Regarding PC releases, Cyberpunk 2077, Among Us and Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout dominated the list in terms of gross revenue. Among Us and Cyberpunk 2077 were also the most played games of 2020 on Steam, with other games like Terraria, Grand Theft Auto 5 and Life is Strange 2 being on the list of most played games of 2020.
