On February 3, the nominations for the 78th Annual Golden Globe Awards were announced. The award show celebrates excellence in both film and television, and the Golden Globes 2021 nominations see some familiar faces from last year’s nominees, as well as a couple of fresh new contenders.

Although the show typically takes place in January, this year’s awards are scheduled to take place on February 28 on NBC. The delay was caused due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, according to The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which gives out the Golden Globe Awards every year.

Streaming platforms take the lead

Streaming platforms Netflix and Amazon dominated this year’s nominations list, both in the film and television categories. Leading the film nominees this year is Netflix’s drama “Mank,” which has gotten six nods. Aaron Sorkin’s “The Trial of the Chicago Seven,” which also premiered on Netflix, followed with five nominations. In the television categories, Netflix’s royal drama series “The Crown” has garnered the most nominations in six categories, followed by comedy show “Schitt’s Creek” with five.

The late Chadwick Boseman also received a posthumous nomination for his performance in Netflix’s “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.”

Television writer and producer Norman Lear will be awarded with the Carol Burnett Award for his lifetime of achievement, and actress Jane Fonda will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award for her outstanding contributions to Hollywood.

Golden Globes 2021 nominations

The 78th Golden Globe Awards will be shown on NBC on February 28, most likely virtually, given the ongoing COVID-19 situation in the United States. The show will be hosted by comedians Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, who have hosted the awards function three times before, most recently in 2015.
