“The Mauritanian”

This summer is good news for fans of Benedict Cumberbatch. “The Mauritanian” stars fan favorite Cumberbatch with Academy Award winner Jodie Foster and “Divergent” star Shailene Woodley. Foster plays defense attorney Nancy Hollander who is investigating the background of a prisoner at Guantánamo Bay in Cuba. Together with her associate and a military prosecutor, Hollander will uncover a greater conspiracy. “The Mauritanian” is based on the true story of Mohamedou Slahi, a Mauritanian imprisoned in Guantánamo for 14 years.

“Spiral”

Looking for scary movies to watch this summer instead? This summer of 2021 does not disappoint when it comes to horror releases. Besides “The Conjuring 3” and “A Quiet Place II,” “Spiral” is another film to include in your list if you are a horror fan.

“Spiral” is the 9th installment in the “Saw” film franchise. This seemingly never-ending franchise’s immense popularity is set to give us even more chills and thrills this summer. Originally created by the beloved masters of horror, James Wan and Leigh Wannell, the “Saw” movies often satisfy audiences with gory and shocking details.

Delayed due to COVID-19, “Saw” fans no longer have to wait, because “Spiral” is already released in most cinemas. Detective Banks, played by Chris Rock, investigates a new set of murder cases. Knowing that the killer is highly intelligent and sadistic, Detective Banks needs to outsmart the killer. But is there a way to outmaneuver the coldblooded suspect?

“Luca”

No idea what to watch with your little ones? As usual, Disney and Pixar have got your back. Earning favorable reviews from critics and audiences alike, “Luca” is sure to be a crowd pleaser this summer.

Set in a beautiful coastal Italian town, Luca is enjoying his summer having adventures with his new friend. However, there is one problem – Luca is not from land, but rather the sea. His real identity may be a threat to both himself, and his friendship. What is he going to do about it? You’ll have to watch to find out.

“Army of the Dead”

What luck horror movie fans have this year! First they have the long awaited “The Conjuring 3,” “A Quiet Place II” and “Spiral.” Now they also have “Army of the Dead” to enjoy in its more than 2-hour zombie-filled runtime. “Guardians of the Galaxy” superhero Drax the Destroyer actor Dave Bautista breaks out of his Marvel favorite role to star in this zombie epic.

This zombie heist film is directed by none other than Zack Snyder, whose “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” only just hit HBO Max a few months ago. In “Army of the Dead,” a group of mercenaries plan a heist in a casino, right in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. We have been blessed with plenty of zombie and heist films in the past, but when the two genres are combined together, we’re in new territory. This original Netflix film is already a hit with more than 72 million viewers and two prequels are already in the making.

“Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard”

Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson’s chemistry has already been demonstrated in “The Hitman’s Bodyguard.” The “Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard” is here to entertain you with more of this unexpected buddy duo trope.

This time, renowned actors Antonio Banderas and Morgan Freeman have joined the cast. The titular character, the hitman’s wife is played by Salma Hayek. She joins in on another mission to save the day in “Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard.” Together, the three of them will uncover a conspiracy threatening the safety of Europe. With the might of the hitman, the wife and the bodyguard, is that enough for them to succeed?
