An Apple Inc. store located at upscale Leidseplein, which is on the south side of Amsterdam’s center, is facing a hostage situation, according to a police statement and local reports.
“There is an ongoing hostage situation at the Apple Store at Leidseplein at the moment. To ensure the safety of all people involved we are not able to share information about the situation and/or actions taken by the police,” said local law enforcement on Twitter.
There have been several Apple retail stores around the world that have faced robberies targeting the pricey products in the past.
Police have cleared the area, asking those around to remain inside and not come out to watch.
Now, several people have been able to leave the store, with the Amsterdam police saying that they won’t elaborate on the situation in and around the Apple store.
