Departures from Hong Kong reach record highs

On Sunday, 5082 people left Hong Kong, bringing the total number of net departures for the week to 22,965. According to Immigration Department data, this number is also 4.4% higher than the previous week. There have also been travel notices for Hong Kong issued by other countries because of the city’s travel restrictions.
When talking about Hong Kong, Liang Wannian, head of the COVID-19 response expert panel at China’s National Health Commission, said, “The ‘dynamic zero-COVID’ strategy requires that we detect and identify infected cases as quickly as possible, take measures to cut off new sources of infection and protect vulnerable people.”
“I can only see the opportunities diminishing for the expat community,’’ said Richard Heyes, who has lived in Hong Kong for a decade, retiring from Citigroup in 2020.
