Nestled within Hong Kong's iconic Pedder Building, Club Bâtard, the much-anticipated private members' club, is poised to unveil its distinctive allure this summer. Spanning an expansive 18,000 square feet across three floors in the heart of Central, this exclusive establishment aims to redefine the wine club experience, providing members with an extraordinary selection of wines, curated sans customary restaurant markups.
At its core, Club Bâtard boasts Hong Kong's largest three-story glass-fronted wine cellar – an opulent showcase boasting over five thousand references to delight both the eyes and taste buds. Members can anticipate curated and immersive experiences featuring an active program of wine tastings and events that forge connections to the captivating world of vineyards and winemakers.
Conceived by Michael Wu, founder of The Fine Wine Experience, and Randy See, managing partner of Bâtard and Piccolo Concepts, the new club seamlessly merges the art of wine appreciation with culinary excellence.
Designed by globally acclaimed luxury hospitality designer Joyce Wang, the conversion of the Pedder Building promises to refresh and revitalize the Beaux-Arts style landmark that first opened its doors in 1924.
The club will house three exclusive restaurants – Bâtard, Hop Sze, and Le Clos.
Bâtard, renowned for its French dining and currently located in Sai Ying Pun, will relocate to Club Bâtard, alongside Hop Sze, celebrated for its traditional home-style Hong Kong specialties. Le Clos, the third restaurant, will provide members with all-day dining options and signature cocktails crafted by Raphael Holzer.
In addition to the restaurants, Club Bâtard will also present OBE, a whisky-focused bar curated by Diego Lanza, former head of Whisky Asia at Bonhams. OBE, which stands for "Old Bottle Effect," will showcase some of the world's finest and rarest whiskies, offering members an even more bespoke experience.
With plans to limit its membership to 1,200 individuals, Club Bâtard ensures an exclusive and spacious environment across its three floors. The club is currently offering a limited release of memberships at a special pre-opening joining fee rate of HK$100,000, set to increase to HK$150,000 post-launch.
“We are focused on bringing exceptional value to our members,” said Wu. “Wines will be enjoyed at Club Bâtard at retail prices, saving members around 60-70% compared to typical wine list prices.”
