This May, Hong Kong’s largest clothing consumer awareness campaign "Get Redressed Month" is returning to the city, championing the theme "Your Clothes, Our Planet" to spotlight sustainable fashion.

The campaign engages the Hong Kong community through storytelling about treasured garments, aiming to deepen connections with clothing and advocate for environmental mindfulness.

"According to our 2020 study," writes the Redress website, "two in five Hong Kongers discard their clothes after a year or less. Many of them will end up in landfill, where we send 404 tonnes of textiles daily in Hong Kong, of which 50% is estimated to be clothing."

Key activities for the campaign include a clothing drive, the Sort-a-thon for volunteer clothes sorting and educational initiatives across corporate and educational sectors. All of these efforts are designed to foster a culture of sustainability in fashion, encouraging participants to reconsider their consumption habits.

Last year's campaign successfully collected 16.2 tonnes of clothing, benefiting underserved communities and further promoting the idea of giving clothes a second life.
