Chinesology, the Chinese dining spot in Central's IFC Mall, has launched a nostalgic dim sum brunch that takes diners back to Hong Kong's golden age. Led by culinary expert Saito Chau, the restaurant is looking to revive Hong Kong's peak 1980s era of food and culture with a modern twist, offering an exclusive weekend brunch that’s a toast to tradition.
The “Back to the ’80s Dim Sum Brunch” showcases a menu inspired by decades past, bringing back cherished dim sum dishes that have faded from the city’s dining scene. Highlights include the signature Sea Cucumber and Superior Soup, a nutrient-rich choice steeped in tradition. Other standouts include the Lobster with Handmade Rice Flour Rolls and Premium Dried Abalone with Chef Chau's special sauce.
Chinesology's take on the xiao long bao is a nod to Shanghai's nearly 150-year-old tradition, prepared delicately with a thin wrapper carefully folded into delicate twists. Eight dim sum desserts on the menu offer a twist on the traditional – the chef particularly recommends the Tragacanth Gum and Pistachio sweet soup and a rendition of the classic Hong Kong Egg Tart.
Mocktails like Chinesology Lemonade and The Ruby, a fruity cranberry, pineapple, orange and passionfruit mix with a ginger ale fizz, complement the meal, alongside unlimited herbal tea and orange juice. But, for those looking for a boozy boost, there's a free-flow drinks option at HK$288 per person, featuring cocktails like the Bamboo Punch and Southern Sidecar.
“Hong Kong’s vibrant Cantonese dim-sum culture is our inspiration. We aim to bring the joy of the '80s era to life, combining meticulous craftsmanship with a personal touch,” says Chau.
Brunch lovers are invited to visit Chinesology to relive a bygone era in an ambience that combines the elegance of Chinese mansions with modern design. And what brunch isn't topped off with taking in stunning views of Victoria Harbour? There are also three private dining rooms available – perfect for business, social or family groups looking to brunch together.
