Wan Chai’s historic Woo Cheong Pawn Shop is being transformed into Sophia Loren House, an homage to Italy's "la dolce vita" era epitomized by filmmaker Federico Fellini. Set to open in mid-April, the building, a four-story landmark known for its veranda facade, will be the new home of four unique culinary and entertainment experiences.
On the ground floor, Sophia Loren Pizzeria offers the taste of authentic Neapolitan pizzas. Or, if you're in the mood for seafood, Casa Sophia Loren on the second floor features an intimate dining experience and an open kitchen concept where guests can watch the chefs prepare Italian seafood dishes with ingredients sourced directly from Italy. The venue’s third floor, named STAGE, will transport guests back to the lively '70s with live performances and a dance floor. And crowning the new Sophia Loren House is Pellicola Rooftop, a romantic spot to enjoy cocktails while overlooking Johnston Road and the colonial tramway.
Nicola Giglio, the project's lead partner, says the vision is to fuse top-notch cuisine with the art of living well, where guests can savor the essence of Italian dining within one of Hong Kong's most beloved landmarks. "The rich history and cultural significance of this historic location align perfectly with the timeless appeal of Sophia Loren, an emblem of elegance, grace and sophistication," he says.
Sophia Loren House is the first international location for the Sophia Loren Restaurant brand outside of Italy. And its namesake, Sophia Loren, is on board, too. “When they asked to open a chain of restaurants in my honour, I was happy to consent to this wonderful adventure and proud to be part of a team of talented Neapolitans who wish to export the 'veracity' of Neapolitan cuisine to the world,” explains Loren.
