Located in Causeway Bay's CUBUS building, Sukiyaki Nakagawa, led by Chef Kazuyuki Itagaki, is now offering Hong Kongers an authentic Kansai-style sukiyaki experience. In case you're unfamiliar with sukiyaki, it's a dining practice that traces its roots back to the Meiji Restoration of 1868 in Tokyo’s Shiba district, where a hot-pot restaurant named Nakagawa was the first to pioneer the culinary style. Drawing inspiration from this origin story, Sukiyaki Nakagawa is paying homage to the Kansai-style of cooking.
The menu features three premium wagyu varieties – Matsusaka wagyu, Oita wagyu and Jinnai Wagyu Aka – and ranges from a five-course wagyu meal starting at HK$780 to a nine-course feast for HK$1,380. If you're into something other than beef, the menu also offers alternatives, including the juicy Hokkaido Yume no Daichi Pork with melt-in-your-mouth fat, as well as French Duck Breast and cuts of New Zealand Lamb.
Chef Itagaki, a newcomer to Hong Kong from Akita Prefecture in Japan, incorporates traditional Japanese culinary principles into his dishes, emphasizing beauty, purity and harmony. Lunch offerings are also available, including a five-course pork sukiyaki starting at HK$280, with wagyu options available for HK$480.
“Sukiyaki Nakagawa takes great pride in presenting the authentic flavours of Kansai-style sukiyaki, offering an unforgettable culinary experience. We celebrate the artistry of traditional Japanese cuisine at every step, from our meticulous knife work to the enticing aromas that fill the air during the sukiyaki cooking ritual," Chef Itagaki shared.
