In an emotional interview with British tabloid The Sun, United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson recalls the uncertainty and fear surrounding his battle with COVID-19.
“The doctors had all sorts of arrangements for what to do if things went badly wrong” Johnson recalls.
Johnson was the first world leader to contract the coronavirus, leaving the world’s sixth largest economy in a state of limbo as the world wrestled with who was in charge of the nation.
Johnson recalls that the moment he realized that there was no cure for COVID-19 was when he was wired up to monitors and moved to intensive care because “the bloody indicators kept going in the wrong direction.”
Towards the end of the interview, Johnson turned slightly emotional saying, “I get emotional about it… but it was an extraordinary thing.”
Less than three weeks after Johnson was discharged from the hospital, his fiance, Carrie Symonds, released the first image of their son Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johnson. Johnson reportedly named the child after the doctors who saved his life.
As of May 4, there are 3,565,310 confirmed cases worldwide with 248,256 deaths and 1,153,997 recoveries.
The UK has 186,599 cases, 28,446 deaths and no recorded recoveries.
