As its busiest neighborhood, Hong Kong’s Mong Kok is one of the most entertaining places to be. For most Hong Kongers, Mong Kok is famous for two things – shopping and food. Although these are both top draws to the neighborhood, Mong Kok is also a welcoming district where history and tradition still thrive while making room for new trends to mix within. There’s no shortage of things to see and do in this district, but if you need a place to start, we’ve got you covered in our guide to Hong Kong’s Mong Kok neighborhood.

Ladies Market

The most sought after place in Mong Kok by both tourists and locals alike is the Ladies Market. Surely, you’ve heard plenty about it already. But the hype given to this vibrant market is all true as nowhere in Hong Kong will you find such bizarre and cheap items. Also well known for offering designer knockoffs, the Ladies Market has everything you can imagine from Dior to Prada fakes. Here you’ll also have the perfect chance to brush up on your bargaining skills – but be prepared to spend all you’ve got, because there is no way you’re leaving empty-handed.

Sneaker Street

Sneaker-heads rejoice! Just a corner away from the Ladies Market, Sneaker Street will immediately catch your attention with shoes, shoes and more shoes! They’ll draw you in with limited editions and rare sneakers that you’ll find irresistible. Lined with stores selling top name brands like Nike, Adidas, Skechers, Puma and Reebok (just to name a few), Sneaker Street offers a variety of trainers and shoes that will have you completely engulfed in sneaker paradise.

Street food

Your trip to Mong Kok is not complete without indulging in some traditional street food. Whether you’re craving something sweet or salty, the hundreds of food stalls in Hong Kong’s Mong Kok have delicious delicacies that will be sure to satisfy you. Locals are well familiar with the egg tarts and waffles, but if you’re feeling more adventurous, pork intestines are a popular choice. You won’t have to worry about exploring Mong Kok on an empty stomach, because you’ll be surrounded by stalls after stalls of local street food as you explore the district.

Argyle Centre

Younger generations are slowly ditching big-name brands like H&M and are making Argyle Centre their new mall of choice. Trendy clothes make their way to this mall before the mainstream stores, so it’s an excellent way to get a first peek at new styles. For what they offer, prices are remarkably low with almost all things under HK$100 (US$13). From the small entrance along the street, you’ll hardly even notice what treasures are hidden within that concealed access. But as the talk starts catching on, you’ll rarely find the mall empty.

T.O.P. (This is Our Place) Mall

As one of Mong Kok’s newest shopping malls, it’s got everything youngsters need to stay entertained. Food, clothes and even an outdoor garden – no wonder it attracts crowds of people. Although it does have its fair share of clothing stores, you’ll probably want to do your shopping at Argyle Centre or the Ladies Market, and just relax at T.O.P. Grab some bubble tea with a couple of friends and take some Instagram photos on the rooftop garden.

Luckily, you won’t have to go far considering it’s literally right next to Argyle Centre. There is even a colorful, holographic footbridge connecting the two malls, which is a popular place to take Instagram photos as your clothes reflect the colors from the glass windows.

The Hut

Mong Kok is home to many new cafes, and keeping up with all them can be a task. But you don’t have to look too far – The Hut brings a welcoming and homey feel to your cafe experience. This garden-themed cafe will have you relieved and relaxed after walking through the hectic streets of Mong Kok. The hut serves their popular sweet teas and cakes that are a local favorite. It’s one of Mong Kok’s underrated cafes – if you don’t mind the company of cats, you’ll find this place endearing with the occasional leg brush from their furry friends on site.
