Let's take a walk through Sheung Wan, where old meets new in the coolest way. As one of the earliest places settled by the Brits back in the day, it's one of the only neighborhoods in Hong Kong where you can find antique stores and historic sites tucked away in nooks right around the corner from modern art galleries, swanky cafes and upscale restaurants. If you're a local looking for a change of scenery or a visitor eager to soak up the essence of Hong Kong, Sheung Wan should be on your list.

Man Mo Temple

In Sheung Wan, there's an incredible spot called Man Mo Temple that's been around since the 1800s. The complex it's in has three different compounds. The primary one on the left is the Man Mo Temple, where the God of Literature and the God of Martial Arts are worshipped. In the middle is Lit Shing Kung, which was built for all the heavenly gods. And the last one is Kung Sor, which used to be the place where the village got together to resolve any conflicts or community issues. These days, it's like stepping into a time capsule mixed with an art gallery. You'll find intricate carvings, figurines and stunning murals at every turn. Man Mo Temple is a peaceful escape and a history lesson all rolled into one. Instagrammers will love it, too, but keep in mind, no flash photography is allowed inside.
